WV State SkillsUSA Competition
SkillsUSA, is an educational student organization that is associated with career and technical programs. Some of the goals of the organization are:
- To promote community service
- To increase student awareness of quality job practices and attitudes
- To provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills
- To increase cooperation in the school and community through student driven activities.
We, at James Rumsey Technical Institute, are proud to announce our hosting of the 2012 West Virginia SkillsUSA Leadership Conference and Skills Competition to be held on March 30th and 31st. Over five hundred sixty (706) students will attend the two day conference and contests to exhibit the skills they have learned in their respective career courses. We are excited about hosting this prestigious event.
There will be forty one (41) events that will be held on Saturday March 31st. The contests consist of both leadership and skills competitive events. Many activities have been planned for the two day event including a forklift rodeo, entertainment by "Great Inflates" and representatives from all branches of all military and many local colleges will be present to answer questions. Judges for the competition will be coming from the tri-state area and some will be traveling long distance to assess knowledge and skill for the contestants.
The West Virginia SkillsUSA organization sponsors the event and the James Rumsey Technical Institute organizes the competitions. It is an exciting and energetic time for many young adults and older adults who will be vying for top honors in West Virginia. Students who win gold (first place in their contest) will then be eligible to compete at the National conference to be held in late June at Kansas City, Missouri.
We at James Rumsey express our gratitude and thanks to all of the businesses and members of the community who go above and beyond to accomplish this task.
